Daniel Sheehan is a Pulitzer prize-winning editorial and commercial photographer in Seattle. Favorite assignments are making portraits where he can tell a story with a photojournalist’s eye. While not on editorial or commercial assignments, he photographs landscapes and aspects of the environment that attract his eye.The landscapes on this site were made with a Fuji 6x17 panorama film camera. The panoramic view best reflects his vision when looking at the environment.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, Sheehan received his BA from the City University of New York. He studied photography in Rochester, NY at Visual Studies Workshop and then spent three years in the Peace Corps, teaching photography at the Institute Technology Mara, Malaysia. He returned to the US and received a MA in International Affairs and worked on a MS in Journalism at Ohio University. For sixteen years, he honed his skills at The Tampa Tribune, Florida Times Union and 10 years at New York Newsday, covering such local breaking news stories as the World Trade Center bombing in 1993 and riots in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. He and a team of colleagues won the Pulitzer Prize in 1992 for their coverage of a fatal crash of a subway train. He photographed fashion in New York, Milan, London and Paris, shot portraits, food and homes for the Sunday magazine and sporting events including a couple of Stanley Cup playoffs and Superbowls. Internationally, Sheehan has covered the war in Afghanistan, an earthquake in Armenia, turmoil in Haiti, and a famine in Ethiopia. At the end of 1991 and most of 1992 he lived in Moscow and covered the breakup of the Soviet Union and its aftermath.
